2022 Year In Review With Vanguard

From top industry awards to new products and markets, join Vanguard® as we look at the biggest accomplishments that impacted the power business in 2022.

Our gas-powered engines continue to hold ground and electrification is steadily growing. This paves the path to a strong future and our success depends on our community's loyalty and one dedicated team who remains committed to winning. Let’s take a trip down memory lane.

1. The 10kWh* Commercial Battery Is Taking Names!

September was an exciting month for electrification! Our 10kWh* Commercial Battery was named one of Equipment Today’s 2022 Contractors’ Top 50 New Products and recognized for its advanced technology and innovative features. One feature that did not go unnoticed was the battery’s roll cage design as it provides maximum protection and durability to withstand the harshest conditions. The roll cage shelters the battery from everyday environmental factors that can physically affect it - like impact, vibration, moisture, and dirt. From a technological standpoint, the 10kWh* battery features a Battery Management System (BMS), which continuously checks voltage and temperature to ensure the battery is always operating at the safest levels.

2. New Diecast Lithium-Ion Batteries Are Expanding The Electrification Lineup.

Our engineering and design teams spent much of 2022 developing and perfecting new diecast aluminum batteries to add to Vanguard’s electrification lineup. With the addition of the 3.5kWh*, 5.0kWh*, and 7.0kWh* batteries, these state-of-the-art packs are designed to provide unmatched power and performance. Due to high-interest and strong demand for electrification in many markets, we will continue to provide more power options suitable for a variety of applications. Contact your regional Sales Representative to order these new packs beginning in January 2023.

3. Our First Battery Show Was A Success!

There’s no doubt we’ll be attending The Battery Show in 2023. If the 2022 show was an indicator of anything, it’s that it was wildly successful for us. The show was extremely busy with over 15,000 attendees looking for the best battery suppliers and partnerships to grow their businesses with electrification as their power source. Our first year at The Battery Show was focused on showcasing our impressive electrification lineup, educating attendees on battery technology, and how our batteries are manufactured. We can’t wait to be back next year, bigger and better than before. Stay tuned!

4. Our Most Innovative Engine Yet.

Showcased at this year’s Equip Exposition trade show in Louisville, Kentucky was our most innovative engine yet: The new Vanguard® 400 EFI/ETC engine. Sitting at 14.0 Gross HP*, this is the most powerful engine in the Single-Cylinder Engine family. Equipped with advanced technology such as electronic fuel injection (EFI) and electronic throttle control (ETC) technology, and our Standard Integrated Cyclonic Air Filtration system that doubles replacement intervals to 600 hours. Quieter by design with a high inclination package to allow for continuous 45° angle operation in any direction, as well as containing a specially designed blower. As part of our commitment to superior support, we have also included our world class Three-Year Limited Commercial Warranty, with the opportunity to add an extra year of warranty when you register your engine. *All power levels are stated gross HP at 3,600 RPM per SAE J1940

Application Examples: Air Compressor, Concrete Mixer, Concrete Saw, Walk Behind Tractor

5. Training Highlights of 2022.

Vanguard offers a variety of training events that are meant to further educate dealers and technicians on diagnostics and essential features of our engines and batteries. In 2022, we held 28 classes at 14 different locations with a total of 557 attendees. These events included Essentials EFI, Advanced EFI, ETC Essentials, and Vanguard Battery Essentials. Of our 23 engine classes we had 493 attendees. As part of a growing trend in electrification and the market we are trailblazing in, we began a series in battery diagnostics, which had 60 attendees over five classes. Additionally, Briggs & Stratton expert Flavio Miranda conducted our first ever all-Spanish EFI training! These classes allow employees and technicians to become trained in diagnosing and repairing our engines and batteries, proving to be helpful in assisting our customers with superior service support. We will have several more training opportunities in 2023, so be on the lookout and be sure to sign up!

6. New Industries, New Opportunities.

Breaking into new industries is never easy; however, construction and mining in particular have presented great opportunities for both Vanguard engines and lithium-ion batteries. With emissions standards becoming more crucial, construction will continue to see an upward trend in electrification as with other markets. For the mining industry, Nick Moore, Director of Product Management for Electrification at Briggs & Stratton, explored battery opportunities earlier in October - how exciting! Although the mining industry has traditionally utilized diesel-powered equipment, recent advancements in battery technology are expanding and disrupting that industry, making room for alternative power solutions. So what’s the big takeaway? For miners across underground sites nationwide, we foresee improved working conditions and an electric future.

2023: Onward And Upward.

There’s no doubt that 2022 has been a special year for us, and it doesn’t go without saying that our customers, the community, and our talented team have gotten us to this moment. The prospect of 2023 excites us and we thank you for your support and loyalty as we look forward to more greatness together in 2023.
