Vanguard Battery Wins Innovative Product Award

The Vanguard Commercial Lithium-Ion Battery, the latest power solution from Vanguard, won the Rental Equipment Register Innovative Product Award in the Engines/Power Sourcing category.

The RER judges awarded the title to Vanguard Battery for being the first complete solution on the market. “We have a fully integrated solution down to our motor controller,” said Dave Schulenberg, senior product manager for alternative power for Vanguard, in an interview with RER. “In a lot of cases when you try to purchase a lithium-ion battery, you’ll get somebody who will provide you maybe with the cells and then you have to put them together with a BMS, a battery management system. And then you have to find a charger that works with all of that, and program it and then integrate it. You also have to have a motor controller. Our solution, as far as we know, is the first one that puts all those things together into one.”

This is the third award Vanguard Battery has won since its launch in October 2019. It also won the Diesel Progress Electrification Newsmaker of the Year award in October 2019 and the Notable New Product Award from Diesel Progress in December 2019.

As a result of rapidly increasing demand for Vanguard Battery, Briggs & Stratton also announced it will open a new Advanced Battery Manufacturing facility in Tucker, GA. Initially, four production lines will be operational within the new 78,000 sq. ft. facility, which has capacity to accommodate future growth.

"This facility is in addition to the current production space located in Milwaukee, Wis., which going forward will serve as a developmental facility to support the influx of interested customers in a wide range of markets, including lawn & garden, military, construction, municipal and golf & leisure," noted Rodgers.

Vanguard first applied its battery solution with ARGO® XTV, a manufacturer of extreme terrain vehicles, to power an ARGO UGV. It recently announced its second application with a large manufacturer of light electric vehicles to power a new line of lithium-ion vehicles beginning in June 2020.
