VANGUARD 20,1 Gross kW* EFI/ETC

 VERTICAL SHAFT V-TWIN COMMERCIAL ENGINE

SMART FUEL, EXTENDED OIL, MAXIMUM UPTIME

Power your commercial turf equipment or zero-turn mower with the Vanguard® 810cc V-Twin EFI/ETC engine. Delivering 20.1 Gross kW (27HP), this commercial-grade engine combines Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) and Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) for instant load response, dependable power under heavy grass, and reduced fuel consumption. Built for serious homeowners and professional landscapers, the optional patented Oil Xtend™ System extends service intervals up to 250 hours between oil changes for maximum uptime and lower total cost of ownership.

  • Longer engine life, lower cost per hour

The patented 5-Step Cyclonic Debris Management System keeps harmful debris out of the engine, even under heavy-debris conditions, so your equipment stays productive for longer.

  • Built to stay in the fleet, not in the workshop

Extreme reliability components reduce leaks, repairs and unplanned downtime: a strengthened cylinder block with a third dowel, a commercial-grade liquid RTV sump gasket, impact-resistant die-cast aluminium valve covers, and Viton seals protecting the oil pump and PTO shaft.

  • Every shift starts on time

A commercial-grade solenoid shift starter delivers reliable, quick starts in heavy-duty applications from 0 °C to 48.9 °C, so crews don’t lose working hours to non-starts.

  • Fewer service stops, lower maintenance costs

The optional patented Oil Xtend™ System extends the maintenance interval to 250 hours, 2.5 times the industry-standard 100 hours. The interval covers oil, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter and spark plug, and the 6x larger filter housing and EZ Oil Drain Hose make each service quick and clean.

  • More work per litre, consistent performance under load

Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI/ETC) improves starting, gives quick load acceptance and reduces fuel consumption.A High Torque Cam delivers more usable power for the toughest conditions.

Power Curve

20,1 Gross kw EFI

28 HP GROSS POWER*

* Power Ratings: The gross power rating for individual gasoline engine models is labelled in accordance with SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) code J1940 Small Engine Power & Torque Rating Procedure, and is rated in accordance with SAE J1995. Torque values are derived at 2600 RPM for those engines with "rpm" called out on the label and 3060 for all others; horsepower values are derived at 3600 RPM. The gross power curves can be viewed at www.briggsandstratton.com. Net power values are taken with exhaust and air cleaner installed whereas gross power values are collected without these attachments. Actual gross engine power will be higher than net engine power and is affected by, among other things, ambient operating conditions and engine-to-engine variability. Given the wide array of products on which engines are placed, the gasoline engine may not develop the rated gross power when used in a given piece of power equipment. This difference is due to a variety of factors including, but not limited to.the variety of engine components (air cleaner, exhaust. charging, cooling, carburettor. fuel pump, etc.), application limitations, ambient operating conditions (temperature, humidity, altitude), and engine-to-engine variability. Due to manufacturing and capacity limitations, Briggs & Stratton may substitute an engine of higher rated power for this engine.
