Supporting VANGUARD OEMs at APF

APF is the UK’s largest woodland and forestry event, taking place at the Ragley Estate in Warwickshire; the show features a mixture of static exhibits and live demonstration areas, presenting the latest innovations and technologies and new machinery for the sector.

Vanguard™ exhibited at the event for the first time primarily in support of the OEM exhibitors with EFI powered wood chippers, showcasing Greenmech’s Arborist 150p, Forst’s ST6P, TimberWolf’s TW230PAHB and Eliet’s Super Prof models on the stand.

The Vanguard EFI engine range is designed and engineered to work in many heavy-duty applications including landscape and forestry machinery, boasting a range of features to optimize the equipment performance and productivity. The features include a closed-loop electronic fuel injection system that ensures easier choke-less starting even in colder temperatures and improved performance. It also enables fuel economy savings of up to 25% and increased alcohol stale fuel resistance compared to traditional carburetted engines. The equipment operator will also notice an increase in power and performance due to the governing control and improved load acceptance.

Also on display was the innovative Oil Guard™ system, an optional add-on feature for the vertical shaft Vanguard 24 – 28 Gross HP engines primarily used in commercial turf applications. The Oil Guard™ technology allows the engine to offer extended oil service intervals, increasing the replacement cycles from the standard 100 hours to 500 hours thereby significantly reducing equipment downtime associated with the most common maintenance item – engine oil.

In addition, the team demonstrated the EFI engine ranges’ diagnostic software solutions, which all Vanguard EFI engines are supplied and backed up with. The diagnostic software has been specifically designed to reduce equipment downtime by providing quick and easy engine performance trouble-shooting in the event of any issues arising. The system allows the operator or technician to download information quickly and effectively, ultimately keeping the equipment up and running more effectively.

“APF provided us with a unique opportunity to support the chipper shredder OEMs which specify the Vanguard™ EFI engines. Our 37HP EFI engine has taken a lead, becoming a popular choice within the commercial forestry, landscape and turf-care markets. Not only is it a cost effective alternative to diesel, but it also offers exceptional power and performance, delivering a great power to weight ratio which enables the OEM to ensure the equipment remains below the critical towing weight limit of 750 kg’s. With the impending emissions legislation coming into force in 2019, the Vanguard EFI engine provides the perfect alternative as it complies with the stringent regulations.” said Mark Kerr, sales manager – OEM engines at Briggs & Stratton UK.

In addition to the EFI engines, the new Vanguard™ 200 single cylinder engine was also on display promoting a host of new market driven performance innovations and technologies. These included the exclusive TransportGuard™ system, a single action fuel & ignition shut-off switch is a simple, yet genius solution to a complex and pervasive problem specifically encountered with hire equipment.

Surpassing the needs of a changing industry

Rather than cloning what is already available in the market and making slight improvements, we started from scratch with the new Vanguard™ 200.

We have built an engine based on what the industry told us they needed, developing new technology in this way means that we are not simply reacting to the competition and matching it, we are able to exceed it.

Vanguard 200

Using the extensive feedback collected from OEMs, commercial dealers, hire market and end users around the globe, the Vanguard 200 has been built from the ground up with features designed specifically to address their specific needs, including innovations like TransportGuard™, an exclusive technology, which eliminates the common problem of oil and fuel dilution during equipment transportation resulting from operator error in failing to shut-off the fuel supply. In additional the engine boasts extended maintenance intervals which drive down total cost of ownership expenses, lower noise and vibration, and improved sustainability not only by complying with the new EU Stage 5 emissions regulations, but also featuring the Vanguard CIC cap which eliminates evaporative fuel emissions and with longer service intervals reduces oil wastage by 50%.

The Vanguard 200 single-cylinder, horizontal shaft commercial engine offers operators and equipment owners better performance, lower maintenance and more uptime. Ultimately saving them time and money.

Since launching across Europe in spring 2018, the Vanguard™ 200 has received excellent feedback from the industry and is certain to shake the competition.

Team Bottrill Vanguard™ update: Summer 2018 record-breaking achievements

Team Bottrill, the UK amateur cycling team, sponsored by Vanguard™ has enjoyed a number of record-breaking achievements from three of its riders at British national events in the summer.

Team Bottrill Vanguard

Team Bottrill riders set a record at the VTTA 15 Mile Champs event in Oxfordshire in August

Riders George Evans, Stuart Travis and James Rix finished the VTTA 15 Mile Champs race with a combined time of 88 minutes and 58 seconds, beating the current record by six seconds and writing their way into time trialling history.

Stuart was the overall winner of the event and broke the course record too with a personal time of 29.00 and averaging well over 30mph.

For each standard distance within the UK there is a Competition Record for the fastest team of three riders in one single event, George, Stuart and James specifically targeted this event with the sole ambition of smashing the record, which they did is magnificent style.

Fastest ever 25 mile time trial set by Team Bottrill Vanguard’s Stuart Travis

Team Bottrill’s Stuart Travis who is on top form in 2018 set a new record for the fastest 25 miles time trial ever set by an amateur rider, achieving a record time of 44:59 on the R25/3 course in Wales.

Other Team Bottrill riders on the day achieved the following times;
James Rix – 46:35
Daniel Barnett - 47:22

The three times together were just a handful of seconds off the National Team Competition Record (a combination of the fastest three riders in the same event).

George Evans retains the Welsh Elite National Time Trial Title

Twenty-one year old George Evans managed to retain the Welsh Elite individual time trial title for the second year beating a very strong field of riders including many professional riders.

Two weeks after winning the Welsh title, George managed a credible 4th place in the 22km individual time trial Gran Fondo World Championships held in Varese, Italy.

As the season draws to an end, Team Bottrill Vanguard can be proud of the numerous wins and podium finishes both in the UK and in Europe.
