EASY INTEGRATION

The battery modular design and use of standardized cylindrical cell formats (18650 / 21700) allow Vanguard to keep the same battery pack dimensions even if there will be new technology available in the future.

DESIGNED AND BUILT FOR COMMERCIAL USE

construction of Vanguard lithium-ion batteries
1. ON-BOARD BMS

Thermal runaway protection for each pack, based on individual CMA monitoring of voltage, current, resistance, and temperature. Enables easy paralleling of packs while controlling charge and discharge to extend battery life. Communicates with the application to prevent shutdowns.

2. CMA MODULES

Compact unit providing higher resolution for monitoring temperature, current, resistance, and voltage within the pack. Easily serviceable.

3. WIRE BONDING

Each cell is connected with an individual fuse, isolating a failed cell from the pack to maintain overall performance.

4. CELL COMPATIBILITY

We use 18650 or 21700 cells, with all chemistries available to meet application needs. Direct partnerships with SDI, LG, Lishen, and Murata.

5. ALUMINUM TIER PLATES

The 6.35 mm tier plates provide propagation resistance, ensuring that issues are contained within the system.

6. CYLINDRICAL CELLS

These cells offer no thermal expansion, predictable failure behavior, and the smallest potential energy unit.

VANGUARD BATTERY FAQs

Vanguard batteries are made using the top-quality, standardized cylindrical cell format, INR18650MH1 cells made by LG Chem. The cells are based on NMC (Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide or LiNiMnCoO2) cathode technology that has great overall performance and is our technology of choice for electric powertrains.

Our batteries are remarkably safe thanks to our in-house designed battery management system. The system processes all logic and communication; monitors the voltage and temperature at each cell module assembly, along with the current flowing through the battery; and ensures the battery always stays in safe operation. Our system also recognizes reversed polarity and prevents overcharging, deep discharge, or overheating.

Our batteries are designed for a life of up to 2,000 cycles to 80% initial capacity – with no scheduled maintenance needs. All major components are serviceable and cell module assemblies can be replaced rather than having to change the entire battery. On top of that, our batteries are covered by the Vanguard 8-year limited commercial warranty.

OEMs can easily exchange information with the battery pack using its two CANbus ports. One CANbus uses the J1939 automotive standard, while the other is designed for uncomplicated data transfer with the OEM's current communication network: No reprogramming of that network is required. In addition, the battery modular design and use of standardised cylindrical cell formats (18650 / 21700) allow Vanguard to keep the same battery pack dimensions even if there will be new technology available in the future.

With a discharge temperature range from -20 °C to +60 °C, and a charging temperature range from -10 °C to +50 °C, our batteries are specifically designed for extreme conditions. The batteries provide their full capacity and performance until they reach the battery management system protection levels.

Encased in a sealed enclosure, Vanguard batteries are designed to endure vibration, dust, and dirt, making them ideal for a wide range of demanding applications, from construction to agriculture, commercial turf, and rental businesses. With power ranging from 1,5 to 70 kWh, our safe lithium-ion battery packs can electrify everything from small to large machinery.
