Power Application Centers Partner with OEMs to Find the Right Solutions

Our mission statement, if you will, is to ensure OEMs have a positive experience with us and that they are satisfied with the performance of the power systems we provide.

Engines evolve. Batteries evolve. And so do OEMs’ power solution needs for their equipment. A one-size-fits all approach simply doesn’t work, nor should it have to.

That’s where the Vanguard® Power Application Centers (PACs) come into the picture, offering OEM-centric service focused on matching power solutions to their equipment. The process of meeting those goals is as much about providing custom-fit engines and batteries as it is about relationship building.

To date, Vanguard has PACs in the US, Germany, Switzerland and Japan, along with a satellite group working in China. A dedicated and knowledgeable team of engineers, engineering managers and technicians provide the foundation to serve OEMs and their power needs.

“Our mission statement, if you will, is to ensure OEMs have a positive experience with us and that they are satisfied with the performance of the power systems we provide,” says Brian Brunelli, manager at the Wauwatosa, WI PAC.

So what can OEMs expect from a Vanguard PAC? It all starts with collaboration.

Vanguard works closely with OEMs during the design phase of their equipment to find the right power solution, whether it’s a gasoline engine or lithium-ion battery. Assessing power solutions at this phase allows for changes in a more cost-effective manner for the OEM. Engineers and technicians also perform comprehensive engine and battery testing of the equipment onsite at a PAC to ensure the spec’d power solution passes all necessary guidelines.

“If there is a problem during product testing, we are able to address it,” says Brunelli. “We go through everything with the OEM, working with them on a solution that is mutually acceptable.”

Every engine undergoes an installation review coupled with methodical product testing based on optimal operating guidelines that Vanguard has established. These guidelines ensure the power solution will excel in the field. Technicians assess operating temperatures and how fuel will be affected by those temperatures, as well as conducting vibration testing, measuring load levels, confirming cable size specs and more.

To provide the best battery solutions, Vanguard works closely with OEMs to ensure their equipment is powered with enough capacity to achieve desired run times.

“The biggest benefit we offer OEMs is that when they get a product that has been through our facility, they know that the performance is going to be solid,” says Brunelli. “It’s not going to fail.”

Brunelli adds, “We’re always open for OEMs to come in and look at our capabilities to see what we have. And we’re always willing to share that information to help them gain a better understanding.”
